I can’t help it. I love reality tv. I love the Kardashians. Sorry if you don’t but I’m all about it. I think they are funny, have great style and the best hair. (I have the worst flat hair. I drool over some great volumized hair.) I thought since I gave an update about Kim and Kris Humphries proposal yesterday that it might be fun to take a look at her engagement ring… and the other 2 fabulous Kardashian rings.
Now I absolutely hate when someone gets engaged and the first thing anyone asks is “What does the ring look like?” or “How big is it?” I think that is absolutely so rude. But I won’t lie, I do love to see people’s rings because jewelry and diamonds are fun and fab but it isn’t the most important thing. The couple, and the marriage, and love are the most important things. (Corny alert. But true.)
But when the rings are celebrity and ridiculously huge it is totally fun to browse. First off, we have Kim’s 20.5 Carat Lorraine Schwartz dazzler. It is made up of a 16.5 carat emerald cut center stone flanked by 2, 2 carat stones. It is rumored to be a $2 Million dollar ring. And it looks like it would be quite heavy…
Now Khloe girl’s ring is simply gorgeous as well. It is 9 carats with a pave band. I dig. Couldn’t find the designer for this one. Anyone out there know or have a guess?
And for those of you who watched KUWTK you saw that Bruce gave Kris a beautiful new ring for their 20th Anniversary. I’m not sure I would ever want a ring as big and beautiful as these because I would be scared of getting mugged. But I mean… I wouldn’t object either.
Which one is your favorite? I’m definitely on Team Khloe.
Now yes… I do realize that Kim K is already married at this point in time. But her proposal was aired on Monday nights finale of KUWTK so I obviously need to share it with my lovely readers and critique it. Enjoy this clip of the proposal (or well the proposal prep because I couldn’t find a full clip of him actually asking but you will definitely get the picture if you have not seen the episode.)
I think it is super super sweet. If you watch the full episode of the show you will see his first idea was to propose at a restaurant with her family and his sister present, but they had just got in a fight and he didn’t feel the mood was right. (Good call, Kris.) I also am not a big fan of proposing in restaurants. (No offense at all if you were proposed to in a restaurant. And I think every proposal is special. But I am entitled to my opinion and me no likey that.) I think proposing at her house is super cute. She will always have great memories of living there and it was sweet with just them two (and the camera crew, but its a reality show so that is how it goes.) Roses, candles, big diamonds… sounds like Kim to me. I give Mr. Humphries an A+.
The Oklahoma heat has been almost unbearable this summer and when you work in corporate America and have to wear pants on a regular basis even walking from the parking garage to the building will get you drenched in sweat. So yes, I have started to dream of fall. It is my favorite season after all. All good things happen in the fall, like a slight chill in the air, football, my birthday and Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday.) But I have to admit with the way this weather has been I am praying for a little playtime in the snow. So here is a cute picture to get you in the holiday mood… cause you can never have enough of that. And the little blue box (though very cliche) is a nice touch. Wonder what he is going to do with the contents?
So this isn’t exactly a proposal… but it is apparently the way to get one. Upon searching the internet to prepare for this post I found that there are many different versions and stories behind the “engagement chicken.” First, I’m going to tell you the story of how I learned of the elusive “engagement chicken.”
I am a huge fan of Food Network and go through phases where it is literally all I watch. (I also do that with QVC… but we can save that story for another day.) One day in college I was watching the Barefoot Contessa and the show’s host, Ina Garten, started talking about how when a woman makes this chicken recipe for her boyfriend he will promptly propose. She shared a story about how this worked for someone she knew (or maybe she had heard a story… I have slept a few nights since then) and it seemed very sweet. She shared the recipe on the show as well and it sounds delicious.
Fast forward a couple of years and here I am thinking of things to blog about… the engagement chicken comes to mind so I google it and look what I found.
So apparently this is the real story behind engagement chicken and could very well be the story Ina told me about when I watched all those nights ago. Either way I think it is fun and I would love for someone to test it. Anyone out there want to volunteer and report back? All you would have to do is prepare this chicken (and don’t tell your boyfriend that it has a secret meaning) and see how long it takes for him to P the Q. Seriously, any takers?
Or you could just make this chicken for fun because it sounds finger licking good. Here is the recipe.
Engagement Chicken (Recipe by Ina Garten)
Ingredients
1 (4 to 5 pound) roasting chicken
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 lemons
1 whole head garlic, cut in 1/2 crosswise
Good olive oil
2 Spanish onions, peeled and thickly sliced
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup chicken stock, preferably homemade
1 tablespoon all-purose flour
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Remove and discard the chicken giblets. Pat the outside dry. Liberally salt and pepper the inside of the chicken. Cut the lemons in quarters, place 2 quarters in the chicken along with the garlic and reserve the rest of the lemons. Brush the outside of the chicken with olive oil and sprinkle the chicken liberally with salt and pepper. Tie the legs together with kitchen string and tuck the wing tips under the body of the chicken. Place the chicken in a small (11 by 14-inch) roasting pan. (If the pan is too large, the onions will burn.) Place the reserved lemons and the sliced onions in a large bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Pour the mixture around the chicken in the pan.
Roast the chicken for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, until the juices run clear when you cut between a leg and a thigh. Remove the chicken to a platter, cover with aluminum foil, and allow to rest for 10 minutes while you prepare the sauce, leaving the lemons and onions in the pan.
Place the pan on top of the stove and turn the heat to medium-high. Add the wine and stir with a wooden spoon to scrape up the brown bits. Add the stock and sprinkle on the flour, stirring constantly for a minute, until the sauce thickens. Add any juices that collect under the chicken. Carve the chicken onto a platter and serve with the lemons, onions, and warm sauce
Actually, it is called light writing, and it is the way Derick proposed to his girlfriend, Emily. You have to check out this video because the talent this group of friends possesses to create this proposal is unreal. This is one of the most creative things I have ever seen in general, not just in the proposal world. For more information on how Derick completed this amazing work of art check out his website. I can’t get over how amazing the final shot is when all the letters come together. Incredibly cool.
It seemed like last year around the holidays was when a ton of friends and aquaintences got engaged. Well something must be in the water around here because in the last week and a half I have heard of a ton of people (mostly seen on Facebook… while creeping) have gotten engaged. A lot of people don’t put their story on Facebook which also drives me crazy… because I am a super busy body and I want to know the deets. One girl I knew from college did put her story up and it was an awesome scavenger hunt that involved a plane ticket to Vegas… elaborate! I love it. (Maybe I can get her to write for the blog.! Anyone want to hear more about that one?) Anyways. There have definitely been a lot of proposals lately… I think they most definitely come in waves. Or at least that is how it has seemed in the last year.
What about you guys, have you noticed a lot of people getting engaged recently? Maybe it is just me?
I don’t remember where I read this. But I have seen this picture before and the caption told me that these pictures were not taken professionally. Just by someone who was lucky enough to catch the moment as they were passing by. Maybe I am crazy and that wasn’t this picture… But if that is the true story. I love it.
Anyone else seen this one and know the story behind it?
